Highlights
  • It is an active transducer i.e. of self generating type.
  • Working principle is based on Seebeck Effect i.e. emf is produced by an thermoelectric circuit consists of two dissimilar metal when junctions are at different temperature.
  • Series or parallel combinations of thermocouples are known as thermopiles.
  • Temperature range may varies from 200 oC to 1768 oC.
  • As maximum sensitivity is of the order of 68 uV/oC, a precision amplifere such as instrumentation amplifier is generally used to process the signal from thermocouples.
